Home renovation and remodelling is a subject that is very close to my heart. It is definitely a passion of mine. I have been involved in several full home remodellings or renovations over the past 15 years including everything from knocking down the back of one house and building a brand new kitchen and living area to simple renewing the look of a house by painting the rooms and adding new fittings and fixtures. Some of these renovations were for the purpose of a quick house sale whilst others were for preparation for moving in. But all involved some form of home renovation and remodelling.
It’s my plan in this blog to look at some of the areas of home renovation and remodelling that I’ve experienced over the past years, particularly the do’s and don’ts and the lessons I’ve learnt as I’ve progressed. I’ll be focusing on remodelling for house selling but everything I cover will also be relevant for adding value to a house to increase it’s equity or for improving the livability of a house for moving into. Some of the areas I’ll be looking at include:
Painting: It’s amazing how many people when trying to sell a house simply ignore this option since a coat of paint throughout the house is one of the easiest ways of adding value for either selling a house or for simply increasing it’s value.
Flooring: There are many different types of flooring options including carpet, floor boards, hardwood laminate flooring, bamboo or cork, bamboo or cork laminate, ceramic tiles and the list goes on.
Fixtures and fittings: Again, renewing door knobs, lighting, handles etc can make a marked difference.
Bathroom and Kitchen renovation: These can range from costly to simple renewal both of which can increase the value of your house by many thousands of dollars.
Gardening: Something else that people often forget. The garden helps give that initial impression of a beautiful and well looked after house.
These are just some of the areas of Home Renovation and Remodelling for the sale of your house I’ll be covering. I hope you enjoy it.
